Harvard China Health Consortium (HCHC), in collaboration with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Chinese Students and Scholars Association (HSPH-CSSA) and Harvard Center Shanghai, will host the "Youth in Public Health Symposium (China, 2023)" in Shanghai from July 24–28.
This event aims to introduce global youth to cutting-edge knowledge in public health and inspire the next generation of public health innovators. The week-long program will be structured around three core components:
Part I. Foundations of Public Health
Led by seven Harvard doctoral candidates specializing in public health, this segment will cover essential topics including:
Metabolic and infectious diseases, Nutrition, Genetics, Epidemiology, Air pollution and environmental health, Biostatistics, Artificial intelligence and machine learning, and Health insurance and policy.
Part II. Frontiers in Research and Interventions
Distinguished experts, including Dr. Liming Liang, Professor of Statistical Genetics at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, alongside scholars from leading Chinese universities, will present the latest breakthroughs in public health research.
Part III. Community Project Design
Under the guidance of instructors and university volunteers, students will work in teams to design community-based public health initiatives. Outstanding projects will be selected by a panel of experts and awarded certificates.
Additional Activities
Between sessions, instructors and volunteers will engage with students during breaks to discuss career planning, academic pathways, and major selection.
Admission Details
To ensure broad accessibility, the event is free of charge. However, admission is highly selective:
1. Application deadline: June 28, 5:00 PM (local time).
2. Applications will be reviewed after the deadline, with acceptance notifications sent by July 6.
3. Limited to 40 students due to venue capacity.
4. Priority given to Shanghai-based high school students. Accepted students and parents must sign a liability waiver.
5. Final authority over event interpretation rests with the organizers.
